Geneva Bates, aka “Doll” age 83, of Barnwell, SC was born on July 19, 1932 in Allendale County, SC to the late Evan and Annie Liza Devoe.  Our Heavenly Father saw fit to call her from labor to reward on November 10, 2015 at 1112 Seven Pines Road, Barnwell, SC, the home of her son and daughter in law, David (Anita) Bates.

At an early age, she sought God’s direction and guidance, and joined the Union United Methodist Church in Kline, SC, where she served as a Communion steward.

Geneva attended the Allendale Training School in Allendale, SC.  She worked for Chapel Farms for many years before her health began to decline.

“Doll” as she was affectionately called by her family and friends, was a humble, loving, and caring woman, who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She was married to Mr. Willie Bates for over 27 years, before the Lord called him home.

One son, Jack Bates, and two sisters, Eva Creech and Pearlie Mae Walker, precede her in death.

She leaves to cherish her beautiful memory, six sons: Willie Levon Bates of Kansas City, Kansas, William Bates of Columbia, SC, Charles Bates of Salina, Kansas, John Bates, Steve Bates, and David (Anita) Bates all of Barnwell, SC; two daughters: Kathleen Dickerson and  Dianne Jamison of Barnwell, SC; one stepdaughter: Nell Williams of Jacksonville, FL; one daughter-in-law: Annie Bates of Rock Hill, SC; one son-in-law: Henry Dickerson of Fairfax, SC; four brothers: Sammie (Cindy) Devoe, Evan, Alphonzo, and Thomas Devoe  all of Philadelphia, PA;  one sister: Elease Buxton of Allendale, SC; eighteen grandchildren: seventeen great grandchildren: three great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and sympathizing friends.
