Mr. James Smalls, Sr., age 76 was born in Blackville, SC on March 3, 1940 to the late Eddie Small and the late Mary Rivers Smalls.   

James received his education in the Blackville Hilda School system in Blackville, SC. He worked as a Carpenter for many years before retiring.  He loved to travel and would often travel between New Jersey and South Carolina visiting his children.

"James” was a loving and kind person, and will be remembered for the love he had for his family, and friends.

He was married to his loving wife, Joann Smalls for 25 years.

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by one daughter in law, Vanetta Smalls; two brothers, Eddie Smalls, Jr., and Leroy Smalls; three sisters, Lillie Mae Kearse, Louvinia Hicks, and Leola Scott; and five brothers in law, Tommy Izlar, Landie Lee, Flim Kearse, Gregory Hicks, and James Scott.

On Monday, March 14, 2016, our Heavenly Father called him from labor to reward at the Saint Barnabas Regional Medical Center in Livingston, NJ.

James leaves to cherish his memory, five sons, James Dorain Smalls, Jr. of Pennsylvania, PA, Jesse Desmond Smalls of Columbia, SC, Jarrod Donavan (Erica) Smalls, and Craig Tarrell Priester of Newark, NJ, and Kennedy (Lisa) Kearse of Ulmer, SC; twenty three grandchildren, including, Jazzy Smalls of Brooklyn, NY, Jamal Smalls of Columbia, SC, Jakeema Smalls, and Jahmyk Smalls of Atlanta, GA, Tierra Smalls, and Jahnique Smalls of Pennsylvania, PA, Falon Smalls of Queens, NY, Sabrea Priester, Saniya Priester, Craig Priester, and Jade Smalls all of Newark, NJ, Kamario Garvin of Allendale, SC, and Jarrod Smalls of Georgia; twenty one great grandchildren;  two sisters, Cora Izlar of Martin, SC, and Lillie Lee of Queens, NY; one brother, General Smalls of Pennsylvania, PA; one sister in law, Rosa Lee Smalls of Pennsylvania, PA; six aunts; five uncles; two special friends of the family, Rosalyn Jenkins (Jesse Smalls), and Irene Smalls (Jarrod Smalls), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and sympathizing friends.
