Mr. Joe Nathan Rice, aka “Bubba” age 71, of Barnwell, SC was born on April 15, 1945 in Barnwell, SC to Wilberine Rice and the late Esdone Rice.
At an early age, he sought God’s direction and guidance, and joined the Union United Methodist Church in Kline, SC, where he served on the Trustee Board, and sang in the Senior Choir. He was also a member of the Barnwell Masonic Lodge #180.
He received his education in the public schools of Barnwell, South Carolina, and graduated from Butler High School. He worked at Milliken Textile in Barnwell, SC for 27.5 years, and SC Dot for 13 years before retiring.
"Bubba” as he was affectionately known, will be remembered for the love he had for his family, and friends. He was a kind and generous man who enjoyed farming, traveling, and listening to gospel music.
He was married to Bobby Ann Odom Rice for 46 years, and in this union, they were blessed with four children.
Besides his father and grandparents, one son, Jeronda Rice preceded him in death.
Our Heavenly Father called him home on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Augusta, GA.
Joe leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted wife of the home, Bobby Ann Rice of Barnwell, SC, two sons, Jamie (Barbara) Rice of Irmo, SC, and Joseph Rice of Barnwell, SC; one daughter, Bronsha Rice of Barnwell, SC; five grandchildren; Stacy Jones Jr, and Braxton Whetstone of Barnwell, SC, and Brandon, Megan, and Matthew Rice, all of Irmo, SC; Mother, Wilberine Rice of Kline, SC; three brothers, George (Mary) Rice of Kline, SC, Hezekiah Rice of Ellenwood, GA, and Rodney Rice of Newark, NJ; three sisters, Debbie Gilmore of Ridgeville, SC, Mary Dora (Joe) Patterson of Hemmingway, SC, and Carolyn Faye (Richard) Spanton of Newark, NJ; two sisters in law, Annie M. Blackwell of Philadelphia, PA, and Pearl McCutcheon of Barnwell, SC, one brother in law, Robert Lee Odom of Barnwell, SC; five aunts, Willie Mae Wrice, Zarrie Wrice, and Geneva Wrice all of Jacksonville, FL, Ruth Wrice for Islandton, SC, and Dorothy Spells of Barnwell, SC; one uncle, Harold Buckner of Washington, DC; one special and devoted uncle, Randolph Buckner of Reevesville, SC, and a host nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and sympathizing friends.
